Vermont Business Magazine Hunger Free Vermont has been awarded a $50,000 grant from National Life Group Foundation to support their core program providing free training and technical assistance to schools and childcare providers. In the past year, Hunger Free Vermont worked with more than eighty-five schools and childcare providers to add and expand federal nutrition programs that make sure all children get the quality nutrition they need to develop and learn. Over 38,000 children in Vermont are at risk of hunger.
National Life Group Foundation made the award to enable an expansion of Hunger Free Vermont’s services, which help schools and childcare providers implement structural and sustainable changes that significantly increase meal program access and participation. This funding will allow Hunger Free Vermont to continue these proven initiatives, which enable more children to participate in breakfast, lunch, afterschool, snack, and summer meals programs. In addition, Hunger Free Vermont will be expanding work to support schools in adopting and maintaining universal meal service, and in sharing information with families about how 3SquaresVT (formerly known as Food Stamps, known nationally as SNAP) helps ensure good nutrition at home. Hunger Free Vermont is committed to providing all children equal and dignified access to the stable nutrition they need to grow up healthy and develop their full potential.
“We feel inspired and honored to be the recipients of this generous investment from National Life Group Foundation,” said Anore Horton, Executive Director of Hunger Free Vermont. “Our mission at Hunger Free Vermont is to end the injustice of hunger and malnutrition for all Vermonters. Fulfilling this mission will require bold initiatives and sustained collaboration with many partners. National Life Group Foundation is deeply committed to ending childhood hunger and this collaboration has incredible potential to improve lives.”
“The good work Hunger Free Vermont is doing to help end hunger for our neighbors is critical for healthy communities,” said Beth Rusnock, President, National Life Group Foundation. “We’re proud to support their efforts and to work with them and others in our state to tackle this issue.”
