VSP investigates suspicious death in Concord

Following notification of next of kin, the Vermont State Police are identifying the victim asMichael Pimental,37, of Waterford, Vermont.

According to news reports, the deceased was being investigated in a heroin case.

As part of the continuing investigation, the Vermont State Police is asking for the public's help in locating a blue2005 Ford F150 extended cab with Vermont plates 296A851. A photo of a similar vehicle is attached to this release.

Anyone who might have seen this vehicle or who has information about the case is urged to contact the St. Johnsbury barracks at 802-748-3111.

***Update, 5:55 p.m., Monday, Oct. 15, 2018***

Following autopsy on the victim, the cause of death has been determined to be multiple gunshot wounds, and the manner of death is homicide.

Release of the victim’s name is pending notification of next of kin.

The investigation is ongoing and active, and no further information is available at this time.

***Initial news release, 11:10 a.m., Monday, Oct. 15, 2018***

On Sunday October 14, 2018, at about 11:28 am, the Vermont State Police St. Johnsbury barracks responded to a report of a dead body at 1549 Victory Road in the town of Concord.The body was discovered by a property owner, who spotted the body along the wooded edge of his driveway. The Vermont State Police Crime Scene Search Team responded to Victory Road to process the scene and identified the body as a white male.The deceased male was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, where an autopsy will take place Monday to make a positive identification and determine the cause and manner of death.

Detectives with the Vermont State Police Major Crime Unit and VSP’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation responded Sunday afternoon to investigate what is being considered a suspicious death. Detectives have been working through the night and anticipate continuing this investigation today, conducting numerous interviews in the Caledonia and Essex county areas. Preliminary investigation has revealed that this is an isolated incident and that there is no apparent danger to the public.
