Woman, 87, escapes car that rolls into river

Vermont State Police On September 29, VSP Derby Troopers, along with Orleans firefighters, were dispatched to a report of a single vehicle crash in Brownington. Upon arrival, the vehicle was found at rest down an approximate 40 foot embankment, in a river. The operator had self-extricated from the vehicle and was uninjured.

Investigation revealed the operator had been traveling north when she fell asleep and left the roadway, traveling approximately 100-150 across a lawn, down an embankment and through brush, and coming to a point of uncontrolled rest in the river.

The vehicle was removed from the river with a wrecker and towed from the scene.
