Charlene Ives, MD, named medical director of Southwestern Vermont Regional Cancer Center

Vermont Business Magazine Southwestern Vermont Health Care (SVHC) is pleased to announce that Charlene Ives, MD, has accepted the role as the medical director of the Southwestern Vermont Regional Cancer Center (SVRCC). “I am excited to provide leadership for the Cancer Center,” said Dr. Ives. “We have a dedicated team of experts committed to providing excellent and compassionate care, and it is a privilege to care for cancer patients and their families, who are our friends and neighbors.”

Dr. Ives received a bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York’s Binghamton University. She studied medicine at the Medical College of Pennsylvania. She completed her residency at Boston University Medical Center in Massachusetts. She is board certified in medical oncology by the American Board of Internal Medicine and has been a member of the medical staff at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center (SVMC) for 16 years.

In addition to Dr. Ives, providers who work in the Cancer Center include fellow medical oncologist Dawn Brooks, MD; radiation oncologist Matthew Vernon, MD; Supportive Care specialist Allen Hutcheson, MD; and Carol Comar-Frost, APRN, MSN, FNP-BC.

“Dr. Ives’ engaging and collaborative approach will further the Cancer Center’s goals and continue the Cancer Center’s long-standing role as a trusted partner and pillar of crucial care and support for our area’s cancer patients and their families,” said Trey Dobson, MD, chief medical officer of SVMC and medical director of Dartmouth-Hitchcock Putnam Physicians.

SVRCC is accredited by theAmerican College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer, a distinction granted to only the top 25 percent of cancer centers nationwide.Care is enhanced through an affiliation with the Dartmouth-Hitchcock, home of one of only three National Cancer Institute-Designated comprehensive cancer centers in New England. The partnership with Dartmouth-Hitchcock, along with SVMC’s investments, provides patients with access to advanced specialty services, including genetic counseling, clinical trials, sophisticated imaging and treatment technologies, and Telemedicine.
