Asthma is a chronic lung disease that narrows and inflames the airways making it hard to move air in and out of your lungs. The Asthma-Friendly Schools Initiative is a comprehensive approach to asthma management in schools. Using tested tools and resources, schools and communities are better able to create sustainable asthma management plans within their existing school structures. The goal of the initiative is to keep children with asthma healthy, in school and ready to learn. According to the American Lung Association, there are over 9,800 cases of pediatric asthma in the state of Vermont.
