Sharing their centennial with SVHC

Vermont Business Magazine Ed Pelz of Brookdale Filmore Pond in Bennington, VT, was born on May 26, 1918. It wasn’t until recently that he discovered that he shared his birth year with Southwestern Vermont Health Care (SVHC), the hospital he has supported for more than two decades.

Friday morning Director of Development Andrew Bisselle presented Pelz with the gift of a book about the hospital’s 100-year history, A Century of Caring. The book includes a congratulatory inscription to Pelz from SVHC President and CEO Thomas A. Dee, FACHE.

All are invited to celebrate the hospital’s enduring commitment to care for the community at Centennial Community Day. The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Sunday, June 10, 2018, on the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center Campus at 100 Hospital Drive in Bennington, VT.

Among the event highlights are an old-fashioned parade, guest appearance by Founder Henry Putnam, a free barbecue, classic fair treats, turn-of-the century games and prizes for all ages, train ride, touch-a-truck, a costume photo booth, and performances by local music and gymnastic groups, including local legend Julie Shea. A formal presentation will include the reading of Southwestern Vermont Health Care’s Centennial Proclamation, followed by a barbershop rendition of “Happy Birthday” and cake for all.

An important part of the day’s festivities is the Cancer Center Community Crusaders Day of Celebration and Cupcake Challenge fundraiser. The crusaders will host a vendor fair and basket raffle, in addition to their much-anticipated cupcake contest. All proceeds benefit local cancer patients and research efforts. As a part of Cancer Survivors’ Day, cancer survivors of the community will be the guests of honor.
