Vermont Business Magazine The Upper Valley Trails Alliance, a regional trails organization serving the Upper Valley Community of VT and NH, received two distinguished awards in April. The Upper Valley Trails Alliance was awarded the Presidents'Community Partner Award. This award, granted through Campus Compact for New Hampshire, recognizes a community organization that has enhanced the quality of life in the community in a meaningful and measurable way, while also engaging in sustained and reciprocal partnerships with Dartmouth. UVTA was recognized for the organizations work with Social Impact Practicum classes and in the countless other ways that UVTA demonstrates equal dedication tomission as to the co-creation of learning opportunities for students across campus.
Randy Richardson, UVTA’s Development Director, was on hand to accept the award on the organization’s behalf at the Grappone Center in Concord, NH on April 10.
The Trails Alliance was also selected to receive a National Project Excellence Award in recognition of the Upper Valley High School Trail Corps program from the Society of Outdoor Recreation Professionals (SORP). Each year, SORP presents this prestigious award to select organizations and projects contributing to exemplary outdoor recreation projects. “While youth crews are not new, the Upper Valley Trails Alliance (UVTA) created a unique program in 2013 that is thriving,” as mentioned on the SORP website. The Upper Valley High School Trail Corps serves local youth and local trails while teaching outdoor leadership skills, and works to increase trail volunteerism. Russell Hirschler, UVTA’s Executive Director, was in attendance at the National Outdoor Recreation Conference in Burlington, VT on April 24 to receive the award.
