Hallquist's gubernatorial campaign workers unionize

Vermont Business Magazine The Campaign Workers Guild on Monday announced the ratification of a collective bargaining agreement with Christine for Vermont. The contract was unanimously ratified Tuesday night by workers for Christine Hallquist, the Democratic candidate for governor.

“We started the Campaign Workers Guild with four staffers from Bernie 2016 on a conference call, so it is particularly sweet to announce the first campaign workers in the Green Mountain state to ratify a collective bargaining agreement,” said Meg Reilly, vice president of the Campaign Workers Guild. “And on May Day, no less!”

“While running on a platform of raising the minimum wage, universal healthcare, and paid family leave, I could not speak authentically to these issues without providing these benefits to my staff,” said Christine Hallquist. “Unions are a critical part of providing economic security to all employees.”

“May Day has long been recognized as International Workers Day,” said Brenda Churchill, Outreach Director for the campaign. “I will always remember May 1st, 2018 to mark a day in Vermont Labor History, when the first ever union contract with the Campaign Workers Guild and the Christine for Vermont campaign ratified a labor agreement, bringing a living wage, healthcare benefits, and paid family leave to a Vermont gubernatorial campaign. This is what democracy looks like.”

The Campaign Workers Guild is a new independent national union representing non-management workers on electoral and issue-based campaigns.
