Observed annually, Doctors Day provides an opportunity to let healthcare providers know they are appreciated.The first Doctors’ Day observance was March 30, 1933, in Winder, Georgia. Eudora Brown Almond, wife of Dr. Charles B. Almond, decided to set aside a day to honor doctors. This first observance included mailing greeting cards and placing flowers on graves of deceased doctors.
At BMH, the holiday is renamed toMedical Staff Dayand is widened to include all clinicians in the hospital’s medical group and departments. “We are fortunate to have a collaborative team of physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician’s assistants on our medical staff. Celebrating this holidayis a way of saying thanks to all our clinicians who work tirelessly every day to keep our community healthy,” noted Steven R. Gordon, BMH President and CEO.
Kathleen McGraw, MD, BMH Chief Medical Officer, explained the significance of recognizing the hospital’s medical staff, “Our dedicated clinicians provide much more than just physical care. They provide hope, compassion and comfort. We want them to know how much they are valued, as they continually deliver exceptional care for our family, friends, and neighbors.”
