Vermont Business Magazine For the fourth consecutive year, farmers across Vermont will once again open their barn doors and garden gates to welcome the public for a behind-the-scenes look at Vermont’s vibrant working landscapes. Vermont Open Farm Week 2018 will be held Monday, Aug. 13 through Sunday, Aug. 19, and feature 63 events at 43 farms across the state. Events are live and sorted by day and location on DigInVT.com.
Open Farm Week is a celebration of Vermont farms offering visitors a backstage pass to learn more about local food origins, authentic agritourism experiences, and the chance to build relationships with local farmers. Activities vary and include chances to milk cows and goats, harvest vegetables, learn to make cheese, go on a scavenger hunt, enjoy an on-farm dinner with live music, and more!
Each Open Farm Week event is created by a farmer and focused on highlighting the unique character of the host farm. Below are a few highlights for the 2018 schedule:
Sandiwood Farm: In conjunction with Open Farm Week and Kingdom Farm & Field Days, enjoy a Farm-to-Fork Grand Buffet with movie and mobile bar! This will be a great time to gather with friends, family, meet new interesting people while watching an amazing sunset around a fire. The special buffet will also feature a movie. Saturday, Aug. 18, 6 p.m., Wolcott.
Jed’s Maple Products: Stop in for a tour of their sugarbush, a tasting of the specialty foods made on the farm, or enjoy a sap bucket paint and sip evening. Aug. 13, 14, 15, 16, and 18 at Jed’s Maple Products, Derby.
Shat Acres Farm Visit: Picnic with the majestic Highland cattle of Greenfield Highland Beef. Take in the sweeping mountain and valley views while learning how Janet and Ray respectfully provide customers with healthy, locally and humanely raised meat. Aug. 13, 15, 17, and 18 at Shat Acres Farm, Plainfield.
Open Farm Week Events are live now! Many events are free and some require pre-registration. Not all farms are open every day, so be sure to visit DigInVT.com to explore the diverse event schedule and plan a visit. Everyone is invited to join the Open Farm Week conversation on social media using the hashtag #VTOpenFarm.
