The event will feature remarks by Vermont State Colleges Chancellor Jeb Spaulding, VSC trustees chair Churchill Hindes and Johnson State College President Elaine Collins. State Rep.Dylan Giambatista, a 2013 JSC graduate who represents Chittenden County and works in the Vermont treasurer’s office, will read a proclamation honoring Doyle on behalf of the General Assembly. The tribute will include a video presentation of reminiscences about Doyle, of Montpelier, who will be 92 in May.
Doyle, who was a state senator for 48 years, has said that more than 80 of his former JSC students have been involved in the General Assembly.
“Bill Doyle has made numerous and indelible contributions to Johnson State College across the years. I have particularly appreciated his two-week course in Montpelier, where students observe the Legislature in action and sit in on committee meetings.Additionally, he has consistently brought in as guest lecturers top government leaders and policymakers, allowing students to make important connections,” Collins says.
She also notes Doyle’s “highly acclaimed video documentary series that continues to disseminate important local knowledge about each of our counties in Vermont.”
Members of the public are invited to donate in Doyle’s honor to JSC’s William T. Doyle Scholarship Fund, which he established for political science students. Those donations may be made atjsc.edu/SenatorDoyle.
