Vermont Business Magazine The US Environmental Protection Agency’s New England office, along with the US Department of Energy are honoring 12 ENERGY STAR partners for their outstanding contributions to public health and the environment. These enterprises will be named ENERGY STAR Partners of the Year for demonstrating national leadership in cost-saving energy efficient solutions. The 12 New England businesses and organizations are among a total of 163 Partner of the Year awards that will be presented in Washington, DC, on April 20.
“The 2018 ENERGY STAR Partners of the Year have demonstrated real leadership, showing how American families and businesses can make smart business and environmental decisions,” said EPA New England Administrator Alexandra Dapolito Dunn. “Energy Star has become a trusted resource for American citizens and business leaders.”
For over 25 years, EPA’s ENERGY STAR program has been America’s resource for saving energy and protecting the environment. In 2016 alone, ENERGY STAR certified products, homes, buildings, and plants helped Americans save over $30 billion in energy costs and approximately 400 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity and while achieving broad emissions reductions.

Energy Efficiency Program Delivery

Efficiency Vermont, an ENERGY STAR® Partner since 2002, offers a variety of programs to residential and business customers at the forefront of energy efficiency. Efficiency Vermont is receiving ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year–Sustained Excellence recognition for promoting multiple ENERGY STAR programs. Key 2017 accomplishments include:
- Managing a network of 50 Home Performance with ENERGY STAR (HPwES) participating contractors, and recruiting 18 new contractors during 2017.
- Piloting a Home Energy Advisor program to guide homeowners through their energy efficiency decisions to address and prioritize the energy needs of the home and enhance the HPwES program experience.
- Offering trainings for the Building Performance Institute’s Healthy Home Evaluator credential and the U.S. Department of Energy’s Home Energy Score to provide HPwES participating contractors additional tools to educate homeowners on the importance of energy efficiency.
- Working with Vermont state buildings, schools, and hospitals to adopt ENERGY STAR building certification as their building performance standard, a goal that is assisted through Efficiency Vermont’s ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager® web services that allows direct transfer of energy consumption data from Efficiency Vermont to Portfolio Manager.
- Leveraging ENERGY STAR certification for its programs across a wide range of ENERGY STAR products, including commercial food service equipment, lighting, heat pump water heaters and dryers, while providing in-depth consumer education on how to choose energy-efficient lighting.
Partner of the Year- Energy Management: ENERGY STAR partners that can demonstrate improved energy performance of buildings and plants through a corporate-wide energy program. Government Properties Income Trust, of Newton, Mass. was the one winner in New England in this category.
Partner of the Year-Home Energy Rater: Home Energy Raters are nominated by New Home Builder/Affordable Housing partners. Sustainable Comfort, Inc. of Worcester, Mass. was the one winner in New England in this category.
