NorthCountry FCU opens in Barre and Montpelier

Vermont Business Magazine NorthCountry Federal Credit Union’s two new branches are open for business at328 North Main Street, Barreand 1 National Life Drive in Montpelier, former locations of Granite Hills Credit Union. At a special meeting onJune 22, Granite Hills Credit Union members approved their Board of Directors’ recommendation to merge with NorthCountry Federal Credit Union.

The two credit unions have worked side-by-side in Washington County for many years, and share a commitment to providing members with a world-class experience through value, convenience, and investments in the community.

NorthCountry Federal Credit Union CEO Bob Morgan and Susan Poczobut, former CEO of Granite Hills Credit Union, celebrate a successful merger outside of the Barre branch. The merger expands NorthCountry Federal Credit Union's branch network to 12 locations serving northern and central Vermont.

“We are so pleased to have additional locations to serve our friends in Central Vermont,” states Bob Morgan, CEO of NorthCountry. “We look forward to getting to know the people of Barre and Montpelier and working together and create a meaningful and positive impact for the community and for our members.”

Credit unions are not-for-profit financial cooperatives, owned by their accountholders. Earnings are typically paid back to the accountholders in the form of better-than-market rates, fewer and lower fees, and free services.

NorthCountry Federal Credit Union is open to anyone who lives or works in northern Vermont. It provides financial services designed to provide convenience and value, and commits 10% of its previous year’s revenue to community giving. It was organized in 1950, and is the third largest credit union in Vermont. Deposits at the credit union are insured to $250,000 by the National Credit Union Administration.
