Beth Fastiggi named Human Resources Commissioner

Vermont Business Magazine Governor Phil Scott and Secretary of Administration Susanne Young today announced the appointment of Beth Fastiggi as Commissioner of the Department of Human Resources (DHR). Fastiggi, a native Vermonter and graduate of the University of Vermont, has served as Vermont State President of FairPoint Communications, formerly Verizon, for nearly 30 years. In various roles with the company, Fastiggi oversaw operations, business strategy, internal and external communications, budgeting and additional managerial responsibilities. FairPoint reached a deal late last year to be acquired by Consolidated Communications of Illinois.

“We are very excited to have Beth join the team,” said Governor Scott. “She brings great energy and enthusiasm to the Department, as well as a strong background in management and a deep commitment to Vermont. Her leadership and experience will be valuable in supporting state employees, agencies and departments in our efforts to serve Vermonters.”

“I’d like to welcome Beth to the Agency of Administration,” added Secreatary Young. “Beth is a highly respected business leader who will be a great asset and public servant for the state.”

Fastiggi is a current board member of the Lake Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Vermont Chamber of Commerce. She has served on several other boards, including as Board President for Everybody Wins! Vermont.

“I am honored to join the Administration and be a part of the new and exciting efforts to strengthen the state economy,” noted Fastiggi. “I look forward to the opportunity to work alongside our dedicated state employees to fulfill our mission and serve the needs of Vermonters.”

Fastiggi has a bachelor’s degree in engineering and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Vermont. She resides in the New North End of Burlington with her husband.

Consolidated Communications is expected to close on the $1.5 billion deal with FairPoint later this year. The acquisition was announced in December 2016 and as of this writing still needs shareholder and regulatory approval. FairPoint shareholders are meeting March 28 in Charlotte, NC, to consider the agreement. The deal includes $560 million in stock and $900 million in debt assumption.
