9th annual Bruce Moose ride to benefit The Moose Foundation

Vermont Business Magazine The combination of Moose, Motorcycle and Man can be a dangerous one. The Moose Foundation is Nonprofit Organization that was created after Vermont resident, Bruce Brown collided with a Moose on a highway South of Burlington in 2007. He was hospitalized and spent time in a coma. The local riding community came together and assisted Bruce and his family with health care, living expenses and motorcycle repair. “Bruce’s accident was the catalyst for the creation of The Moose Foundation. We really want to help motorcyclists in need recover from accidents.” David Pearson, Moose Foundation, Co-Director.

The mission of the Moose Foundation is to offer support and assistance to riders who reside (or have been injured) in Vermont while motorcycling. Our motto is “Riders Helping Injured Riders.” Since its inception, the Foundation has contributed over $15,000 to dozens of injured riders and their families. Assistance has ranged from covering medical expenses, helping with household expenses and in the unfortunate case of a fatal accident, funeral expenses. Aside from the monetary assistance, we continue to provide emotional support to the riders and their families because being a backbone during difficult times is just as important.

In an attempt to fund the Foundation, the first Bruce’s Moose Run Ride was held in September 2008. Sixty riders participated in the fundraising ride through the Green Mountains. “There was such a great outpouring of support that we really wanted to create something that would continue to support other riders who need help.” Tim White, Moose Foundation, Co-Director.

“There is no preference to brand or style.” Mike Mitchell, Moose Foundation, Co-Director.

Every year the ride continues to grow. This year's ride is Saturday, September 24th. The ride will leave at 10am from Green Mountain Harley-Davidson. Later returning to the dealership for a complimentary lunch. Registration is at 9am. This is a free ride, however donations will be accepted on behalf of the Moose Foundation. There will be commemorative t-shirts, hoodies and pins on sale. Stop by for information and to make a donation.
