Vermont Business Magazine Vermont Railway announced today that the Shelburne Transload Facility is now fully operational with the first railcars of salt being unloaded this morning. Construction of the facility was completed in early November and Vermont Railway received its final permit authorizations on Monday.
“We are pleased that we are able to serve our Vermont community from this new, state of the art, professionally engineered facility just in time for the upcoming winter season that is now upon us,” commented Vermont Railway Assistant Vice President Selden Houghton.
“With snow in the air, Vermonters understand the importance of road salt in the winter. This new railroad facility will help cities and towns throughout the state keep our roads safe.”
Vermont Railway and the trucking that will be distributing the salt from the facility, Barrett Trucking of Burlington, have been embroiled in litigation with the town of Shelburne over the location of the salt shed and the way Vermont Railway was able to site the project on Route 7 just north of the village.
The salt is delivered by rails and either stored at the salt shed or directly emptied into trucks to either salt roads or transport to another distribution facility.
Vermont Railway’s new Shelburne Transload Facility is located at 4760 Shelburne Road in Shelburne, Vermont. For more information about Vermont Railway and the Shelburne Transload Facility see www.vrs.us.com/shelburnetransload/shelburnetransload.html
