Mount Snow, Green Mountain Inn participating in VYCC fundraiser

Vermont Business Magazine Mount Snow and the Green Mountain Inn have just joined the ranks of dozens of Vermont businesses supporting Vermont Youth Conservation Corps’ sixth annual auction fundraiser, which runs Friday, November 25 through Sunday, December 11.

“As a major employer here in Southern Vermont, we know the benefits of hiring the right people for the job,” says Kelly Pawlak, general manager of Mount Snow. “The leadership training, skills, and values that the Vermont Youth Conservation Corps instill in its members are exactly what we’re looking for in our future employees and leaders, which is why we’re happy to help them continue forward with their mission.”

Right now, the nearly 300 young people who participated in a VYCC program this year are applying their new skills at school and work. VYCC programming imparts transferrable soft and technical skills that help alumni secure and retain employment, and succeed in the workplace. In a recent alumni survey, 70% of respondents said their VYCC experience helped them secure a job, and 26% currently hold a management or executive level position. 38% report working in the field of conservation and outdoor education.

“When I was 17, [VYCC] changed my life,” writes one survey respondent, “My eyes were open to a path I didn't know I could choose. I realized I had more strength in myself than I knew and I had the ability to lead my peers. I use what I learned on a daily basis.”

Patti Clark, Innkeeper at Stowe’s Green Mountain Inn, says “The Inn is pleased to support the efforts of the Vermont Youth Conservation Corps. Their leadership programs result in a lasting impact on Vermont’s land and communities.”

Other partnering business include Stowe Mountain Resort, Jay Peak Resort, Mad River Glen, Bolton Valley, Old Stagecoach Inn, Brandon Inn, Shelburne Farms, Stowe Soaring, Local Motion, Community Sailing Center, Craftsbury Outdoor Center, and many of the state’s beloved museums, boutiques, and locally owned outdoor supply stores. Top notch dining including Leunig's Bistro, Prohibition Pig, and Mirabelle's; plus local favorites Sweet Simone's, Nutty Steph's, Chill Vermont Gelato, and Capital Kitchen are participating.

VYCC’s impact reaches every corner of Vermont, with individuals and businesses alike noting the importance of a well-supported organization. The public is encouraged to bid on items which will support education and training for young people. Items of all types, from ski tickets to beauty products, will be available for bid starting midnight, November 26 at www.biddingforgood.com/vermontauction.
