Vermont Business Magazine Heidi Scheuermann (R-Stowe) announced today that she will run for re-election to the Vermont House of Representatives. Scheuermann had in past years considered a run for statewide office. She said there is much work to do in Montpelier in regards to state spending and management. With a new governor, lieutenant governor, Speaker, and Senate president coming in, as well as several new legislators, Scheuermann said she's looking forward to working with the new leadership.

“It has been my distinct honor and privilege to serve the people of Stowe in the Vermont House for the past decade,” said Scheuermann. “Fighting for education funding reform and property tax relief, responsible state spending, policies that encourage private sector economic growth, responsible environmental stewardship, and health care reform that works for Vermonters have all been at the center of my efforts. And, I have worked diligently throughout the years, with people from across the political spectrum, to achieve some success in each critical policy area.”
“It has certainly been a challenge, however, as focus on the fundamentals of government and prosperity has waned so dramatically in recent years, under leadership of the Democratic majority.”
“State spending has far outpaced incoming revenues in each of the last six years, and has been paid for by higher and higher taxes and fees on all Vermonters. Policies to encourage and reward private investment and economic growth have been few and far between. The one-size-fits-all big warehouse approach to education has allowed Montpelier to take control of almost every aspect of our children’s education. And, incompetent management of health care reform has seen hundreds of millions of dollars spent on a website that does not work, and on a health care exchange that has some of the highest priced insurance products in the country.”
“That said, I am very excited about the new leadership that is inevitably coming to Montpelier next year, and want to be part of it. Like most Stoweites and Vermonters I know, I am looking forward to a realignment of priorities – a renewed focus on addressing our economic challenges and taking advantage of the opportunities we have; a comprehensive, long-term plan to address our demographic challenges; common sense approaches to health care and education; and, a new kind of fiscal restraint when it comes to state spending.”
“I simply believe that Vermont is at a crossroads, and that I can be an asset in our turnaround. I hope the voters of Stowe will choose to honor me with their support again in 2016.”
