Former Governor Howard Dean endorses Sue Minter for governor

Vermont Business Magazine Former Governor Howard Dean, and former Chair of the Democratic National Committee, today announced his endorsement of Sue Minter for governor. “I am proud to support Sue Minter to serve as the next Governor of Vermont,” said Gov. Dean.  “She is a strong leader and a true progressive who has the experience and dedication we need to keep moving Vermont forward.”

Gov. Dean said Minter’s call to address challenges ranging from cleaning up Lake Champlain, expanding access to affordable health care, and ensuring working Vermonters can afford college and job training programs are critical to Vermont's future. "Sue has proven she can get the job done."

Gov. Dean also articulated his support for Minter’s economic vision for the state, and her focus on helping working families.

Dean’s announcement comes on the heels of the endorsement of Minter from 55 current legislators, such as Senator Anthony Pollina and Representative Bill Lippert, and over 25 former legislators, including former Speakers of the House Tim O’Connor and Gaye Symington. Minter has also been endorsed by former Vermont Governors Madeleine Kunin and Phil Hoff, and former Lt. Governor Doug Racine.

“I am thrilled to have the support of so many who have dedicated their lives to making progressive change in Vermont,” said Minter. “Howard Dean’s leadership, progressive values, and dedication to Vermont have set a high bar for all who follow. I am honored to have his support in this election, and will work everyday to continue supporting working families, to be a strong environmental steward, and to make Vermont work.”

Howard Dean served as Vermont’s Governor from 1991 through 2002. He also founded Democracy for America, a political action committee headquartered in South Burlington which is dedicated to supporting progressive causes across the country. He ran for President in 2004 and was Chair of the DNC from 2005 to 2009.

Minter is running for the Democratic nomination for Governor. The primary election will be held on August 9th.
