Vermont Business Magazine Matt Dunne was endorsed today by the Professional Firefighters of Vermont, a union representing firefighters, emergency medical technicians and paramedics working for twelve of the paid professional fire, EMS paramedic services in Vermont. This is the latest in series of labor unions endorsing Matt for Governor. The endorsement was announced at an event held at the Ethan Allen Engine Co. #4 in Burlington. Members of Teamsters Local 597, Vermont State Employees' Association (VSEA) and the Executive Board of the Vermont State Labor Council AFL-CIO, which have all endorsed Matt’s run for governor, were also in attendance.
Matt Dunne receives endorsement of the Professional Firefighters of Vermont
“I’m honored and humbled to be endorsed by the Professional Firefighters of Vermont,” said Matt Dunne, Democratic candidate for Governor. “PFFV represents the first responders who serve Vermonters in our times of greatest need. As governor, I will work hard to ensure our policies respect those who protect us.”
“Three weeks ago, the Professional Firefighters of Vermont -- the firefighters, EMT’s and paramedics working for twelve of the paid professional fire, EMS paramedic services in Vermont -- voted to endorse Matt Dunne for Governor,” said Bradley Reed, President of the Professional Firefighters of Vermont. “Matt is no stranger to the dangers that our members face, in fact he supported legislation in 2006 that affords protections to firefighters for cardiac emergencies that occur as the result of our occupation. Matt has the experience and leadership needed to face the challenges ahead.”
Last week, he was endorsed by the Teamsters Local 597, which represents over 900 Vermonters in package delivery, freight, dairy processing, public transit and school bus services, building material and wire and cable manufacturing, police services and municipal highway maintenance. Last month he received endorsements from VSEA and the Executive Board of the Vermont State Labor Council AFL-CIO.
Matt Dunne has a record of fighting poverty and standing up for working Vermonters. As head of AmeriCorps*VISTA and during his eleven years in the state legislature, Matt fought for increases in the minimum wage, universal healthcare and pushed back on corporations trying to take away retirees’ hard-earned retirement benefits.
“Organized labor has been on the front lines protecting working people, and we must continue to stand together to make sure workers’ rights are fairly represented,” said Dunne. “I am committed to fighting for fair workplace policies, and as governor, I will ensure Vermont never implements the kind of union busting so-called ‘Right to Work’ policies that have eroded worker protections in other states.”
Earlier this month, Matt was endorsed by more than six dozen past, present and future state legislators, a majority of the Burlington City Council, grassroots progressive organization Rights & Democracy and the Upper Valley Young Liberals.
