Vermont Business Magazine - The Paramount Theatre and Castleton University announce the second half of Project 240 which is set to begin July 21, with live broadcasts of the final nights of the Republican and Democratic National Conventions. As part of the remaining 10 events in the 14 month series, the Paramount will welcome several prominent political experts and analysts to its stage, none of whom are more well-known than the powerhouse duo of James Carville and Mary Matalin.
Garrett Graff
The next event in the 19-part series will be the final night of the Republican National Convention on July 21. Recognized as one of the nation’s leading experts on technology and politics, Garrett Graff will host the event at the Paramount. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with Graff taking the stage at 7 p.m., leading into the live broadcast from Cleveland.
The series rolls on with a live broadcast from the final night of Democratic National Convention on July 28, hosted by National Security Correspondent and Senior Writer for The New York Times, David Sanger. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with Sanger taking the stage at 7 p.m. leading into the live broadcast from Philadelphia.
“An Evening with James Carville and Mary Matalin” is scheduled for September 18 at 7:30 p.m. The keynote speaker event will feature Carville, America’s best-known political consultant and wife Matalin, one of the country’s most celebrated and popular and sought-out conservative voices live on the Paramount Theatre stage discussing the 2016 election cycle. Tickets for Carville/Matalin will go on sale on July 22 following the announcement of the Paramount Theatre’s 2016-2017 Season at 6:00 p.m. at The Paramount.
Project 240 will also host live broadcasts of all three Presidential debates (September 26, October 9, and Octobrt 19), as well as the Vice Presidential debate on October 4. Nationally prominent hosts/speakers will be announced for all four broadcasts closer to the beginning of the debate cycle.
Castleton and the Paramount will also partner with Vtdigger.com to present a live Vermont State Gubernatorial Debate on September 28, before welcoming the Reduced Shakespeare Company for their presentation of A Complete History of America (abridged), and wrapping up the 19-event excursion on November 8 with an election night gala.

PROJECT 240
Project 240 is the culmination of nine months of planning and is the latest step in the ongoing collaboration between the Paramount Theatre and Castleton University. The collaborative effort is designed to elevate public discourse around the 2016 general election, while bringing the community together for a series of impactful events in celebration of the 240th year of our republic.
The series of 19 events at the Paramount Theatre spans 14 months and exists at the intersection of civic engagement, education, and entertainment. All except three of the events are free, and those who attend can expect a range of programming featuring nationally prominent participants, public discourse, patriotic music, satirical theatre, and more.

ABOUT JAMES CARVILLE
James “The Ragin’ Cajun” Carville is America’s best-known political consultant. His long list of electoral successes evidences a knack for steering overlooked campaigns to unexpected landslide victories and for re-making political underdogs into upset winners.
His winning streak began in 1986, when he managed the gubernatorial victory of Robert Casey in Pennsylvania. In 1987, Carville helped guide Wallace Wilkinson to the governor’s seat in Kentucky. Carville continued his winning streak in New Jersey when he helped Frank Lautenberg get elected to the U.S. Senate. ABOUT MARY MATALIN
Mary Matalin is one of the most celebrated and popular conservative voices in America. As an author, television and radio host, and widely sought after political contributor, pundit and public speaker, she has become noted for her straightforward manner and insightful political repartee. Among her many roles and accomplishments, she has served under President Ronald Reagan, made her mark as George H.W. Bush's Campaign director and most recently as assistant to President George W. Bush, and as assistant and counselor to Vice President Dick Cheney, making her the first White House official to hold that double title.
Since that time, Matalin has made frequent television appearances as a political commentator, securing a career in conservative media advocacy following decades of work in the GOP political trenches. Today, she co-hosts the nationally-syndicated radio program Both Sides Now, which is currently broadcast on over 100 radio stations across the country.
In addition to her successful careers in politics, television and radio, Matalin is also a widely read, respected and acclaimed author. Matalin co-authored the best-selling political campaign book All's Fair: Love, War, and Running for President with her husband, James Carville. The book was named one of the top 5 best books on public relations by The Wall Street Journal. Matalin and Carville recently returned to the New York Times best sellers list with their newest book Love and War: 20 Years, 3 Presidents, 2 Daughters, One Louisiana Home, available now. ABOUT GARRETT GRAFF
Garrett M. Graff, a distinguished magazine journalist and historian, is recognized as one of the nation’s leading experts on technology and politics. He’s spent more than a dozen years covering politics, technology, and national security, written for publications from WIRED to the New York Times, and served as the editor of two of Washington’s most prestigious magazines, Washingtonian and POLITICO Magazine, which he helped lead to its first National Magazine Award, the industry’s highest honor. His online career began with his time as Governor Howard Dean’s first webmaster, and in 2005, he was the first blogger accredited to cover a White House press briefing.

ABOUT DAVD SANGER
David E. Sanger is National Security Correspondent for The New York Times and one of the newspaper’s senior writers. He is the author of two bestsellers on foreign policy and national security: The Inheritance: The World Obama Confronts and the Challenges to American Power (2009) and Confront and Conceal: Obama’s Secret Wars and Surprising Use of American Power (2012). He served as the Times’ Tokyo Bureau Chief, Washington Economic Correspondent, White House correspondent during the Clinton and Bush Administrations and Chief Washington Correspondent.
In his 34-year career, Mr. Sanger has twice been a member of Times teams that won the Pulitzer Prize, first for the investigation into the causes of the Challenger disaster in 1986, and later for investigations into the struggles within the Clinton administration over controlling technology exports to China. He has also won the Weintal Prize for diplomatic reporting for his coverage of the Iraq and Korea crises, the Aldo Beckman prize for coverage of the Presidency, and, in two separate years, the Merriman Smith Memorial Award, for coverage of national security issues. “Nuclear Jihad,” the documentary that Mr. Sanger reported for Discovery/Times Television, won the DuPont Award for its explanation of the workings of the A.Q. Khan nuclear proliferation network.
