Shumlin appoints Greg Glennon to Chittenden County Probate Court

Vermont Business Magazine Governor Peter Shumlin today announced the appointment of Gregory Glennon to replace Judge Susan Fowler to the Probate Division of the Chittenden Unit of the Superior Court. “Greg’s commitment to public service, understanding of state and local government, and his experience combined with his fresh perspective will make him a very strong addition to the probate bench,” Shumlin said.

Glennon, who lives in Burlington, currently serves as general counsel to the Agency of Education. Previously, he was in private practice at the South Burlington law firm of Kirkpatrick and Goldsborough, where his practice included probate litigation and family law matters. He has also served as an assistant district attorney in Suffolk County, MA, and as a legal counsel to the Massachusetts House of Representatives.

"Judge Fowler has set a high standard for any successor.  I will work hard to make sure that the Chittenden Probate Court remains a place where everyone is treated fairly, and with dignity and respect.  It has been a tremendous honor to serve in the Administration of Governor Shumlin at the Agency of Education, and I am looking forward to this new challenge,"  Glennon said.

Glennon graduated from New England School of Law in 2002.  He also received a master’s degree in government and public administration from Northeastern University in 1998, and a bachelor’s degree from York College in 1996.

Governor Shumlin also noted his appreciation for retiring Judge Susan Fowler, who has served as a the probate judge for Chittenden County since 1995.  “For over twenty years, Judge Fowler has faithfully served Chittenden County, guiding Vermont families through our probate laws with fairness and compassion.  I thank her deeply for her distinguished service.”
