Vermont Business MagazineThe Board of Directors at Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility (VBSR) is pleased to announce Jane Campbell as the organization’s new Executive Director. Campbell, who begins her tenure at VBSR onFebruary 15th, will be the organization’s 6th executive director since its founding in 1990.“We are thrilled to make this announcement,” said VBSR Board Chair Sara Newmark of New Chapter, the Brattleboro-based vitamin and herbal supplement company. “We celebrated VBSR’s 25th anniversary last year and are confident that Campbell’s talents will help us ensure that VBSR is a force for good in the business world for another 25 years.”
“From helping people improve their businesses, workplaces, environment and communities, to providing a business voice on key policy issues, VBSR is a tremendous resource for businesses,” said Jane Campbell. “I am so excited to be working with this organization, and I see tremendous potential for its future.”
Campbell comes to VBSR from the Vermont Historical Society (VHS), where she served as Director of Development for nine years. In her time at VHS, Campbell led the efforts to complete large capital and debt reduction campaigns, served as a key fundraiser, and managed the organization’s community relations and outreach, increasing visibility with expanded public relations, branding, website presence, and social media efforts. Prior to VHS, Campbell served as the Executive Director of the Copley Hospital Foundation.
From 1992-2002, Campbell served as the first full-time Executive Director of VBSR. During her first tenure at the helm, VBSR became a player in Vermont’s political world, advocating for livable wages and sustainable development legislation. Under her leadership, the organization also created a sister 501(c)3 non-profit organization for research and education and more than quadrupled in membership, growing from 80 members to 365. (VBSR currently has 763 members.)
“Simply put, VBSR wouldn’t be positioned where it is without Jane Campbell’s early vision for and leadership of the organization,” said Newmark. “It’s a different organization today than it was 14 years ago, but unchanged is how important VBSR’s role is in advocating for a business model that values not only profit, but employee well-being, and environmental and community stewardship as well. We look forward to utilizing Campbell’s leadership experience and forward-thinking vision to help us achieve VBSR’s long-term goals.”
Campbell will officially begin fulfilling Executive Director responsibilities onFebruary 15th; her first public appearance will be at VBSR’s Annual Legislative Reception onThursday, February 18thfrom5:30-8:00 PMat Capitol Plaza in Montpelier where she plans to address the nearly 150 VBSR members, legislators and other guests who will be in attendance.
