Vermont Business Magazine ReSOURCE is once again providing $150,000 in essential goods to alleviatepoverty in Vermont through the Essential Goods Program. By obtainingvouchers, individuals and families in need can receive donations of thosedurable goods essential to safe and comfortable living such as cookware,mattresses, bed frames, dressers, books, washing machines, ranges, toys forkids, and even desktop computers.ReSOURCE’s Essential Goods Program also supports sister nonprofitorganizations, helping them meet their own organizational needs forinformation technology, office furniture, and appliances.
Vouchers for Essential Goods can be obtained from over 30 partner agenciesin northern and central Vermont. Those agencies will identify the needs of theapplicants and issue vouchers in the appropriate amounts. Vouchers can thenbe redeemed at any of ReSOURCE’s retail stores in Burlington, Barre, andHyde Park. Nonprofit organizations needing materials for their ownoperations are eligible for a 25% discount on all purchases off ReSOURCE’salready low prices and may request additional support by talking with storemanagers at each ReSOURCE location.
In 2015, the ReSOURCE Essential Goods Program supported 1,013beneficiaries including low income families, refugees, victims of disaster,women fleeing domestic violence, and homeless individuals moving intopermanent housing. ReSOURCE also provided information technologyequipment, office furniture, and other needed supplies to 66 nonprofitagencies. This support helped these agencies fulfill their mission.
ReSOURCE’s Essential Goods Program is made possible thanks to thousands ofcash and material donations from individuals, corporations, foundations, aswell as the Vermont Agency of Economic Opportunity.
Applicants can call 211 for a list of partner agencies that distribute ReSOURCEEssential Goods Vouchers.
