Vermont Business MagazineOffers Low-Income Assistance Program, WARMTH support, access toenergy efficiency to Vermonters on fixed incomes

As cold weather cycles back into the northeast, Vermont Gas reminds its customers about resources available to Vermonters in need. Vermont Gas offers a low-income assistance program, support for the Champlain Valley Office of Economic Opportunity’s (CVOEO) WARMTH program, and access to cost-saving energy efficiency programs.

These programs support those most in need, including low-income and fixed-income Vermonters who are in need of emergency heating assistance, ongoing support, and efficiency services to bring down heating costs.

“Home heating during the winter can be a difficult burden for many families in Vermont and Vermont Gas is committed to doing our part,” said Don Rendall, President and CEO of Vermont Gas. “For the past 50 years, we have kept rates affordable and will continue doing so into the future.”

The company offers income-eligible customers a 20% reduction on their natural gas bills.Enrollment is easyand the Company is available to help with the application.

“When customers come in for help with Crisis Fuel or the WARMTH program, one of the first things we ask is ’do you participate in the Vermont Gas discount program,’” said Jan Demers, CVOEO Executive Director. “Vermont Gas is committed to helping Vermonters with low incomes in multiple ways. We are grateful for that help.”

In the past year, Vermont Gas families have seen a savings of $125 through reduced rates. By offering a year-round payment program, the company also helps customers even out their winter heating payments.

Vermont Gas serves more than 50,000 customers in Chittenden and Franklin counties and will bring its services to families and businesses in Addison County later this year. Almost 11% of Addison County households are at or under the poverty level.

“Energy choice and opportunity can be very helpful to families, particularly those on fixed incomes, who want affordable and reliable service without having to pre-pay to fill up their tanks with other heating fuels,” said Rendall.
