Linda Myers to run as Republican candidate for House Speaker

Vermont Business Magazine On Wednesday, November 30, with the support of the House Republican Caucus, Representative Linda Myers (R-Essex Town), announced her candidacy for Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Myers issued the following statement: "As a 15-year member of the Vermont House, known for my hard work, diligence and working across party lines, I am announcing my intention to run for Speaker. While I hadn't planned to do so originally, I, along with the House Republican Caucus, feel very strongly that House members should have the opportunity for an honest and open debate about the direction in which we want to go as a body. And, given my experience and reputation as fair and non-partisan, I agreed to take on the challenge.

"I am committed to advancing the agenda of Governor Phil Scott, and to doing so in a compassionate, collaborative manner. I am committed to bringing fiscal responsibility back to our budgeting, and making economic growth and prosperity the number one priority in the House. That is the message I received from Vermonters during this year's election cycle. I will work hard to build multi-partisan collaboration, and support policies that ensure a more promising and affordable future for Vermonters from all walks of life and all parts of the state."

House Republican Leader Don Turner (Milton) said: “On behalf of the House Republican Caucus, I am excited about Representative Linda Myers’ candidacy for the Speakership. Linda has gained a wealth of experience over the course of her fifteen-year tenure in the Legislature, and has consistently demonstrated the ability to work across party lines to get great things done for Vermont. Her leadership at both the state and local levels has been impressive. As a longtime supporter of Phil Scott, she will do everything in her power as Speaker to support legislation that honors the mandate given by the electorate to our next Governor."
