Vermont Gas to bring natural gas service to Weybridge

Vermont Business Magazine Vermont Gas has received approval from the town of Weybridge to bring residents access to its natural gas service. The Selectboard approved the company’s ‘request to serve’ in June and granted approval of the system design last night. The Weybridge expansion is part of the Addison Natural Gas Project and will provide service to families who live on Orchard Lane, Pleasant View Terrace, Otter Creek Lane, and a portion of Pulp Mill Bridge Road, Weybridge Road and Morgan Horse Farm Road. The Weybridge distribution lines will be installed this year. Construction on the 41-mile expansion project is underway in Chittenden and Addison counties. The company is focused on completing the project by the end of the year.

The “The Weybridge extension will provide an important energy choice to almost 50 families in town, many of whom have already called to sign up,” said Don Rendall, Vermont Gas President and CEO. “We would like to thank the Selectboard and town officials for their hard work in helping us become a part of the community.”

“I currently heat my home with oil and look forward to the day I can say that I am a natural gas customer,” said Muriel Harms, of Weybridge. “Not only will I save money after I switch, I will also be using a more reliable energy source to heat to my home.”

In addition to natural gas service, Weybridge families will also be eligible to participate in Vermont Gas’ award-winning efficiency programs. The company said its energy experts have helped over 30,000 customers save money and reduce their carbon footprint, just by making their homes and buildings more efficient. Last year alone, Vermont Gas customers saved over $14 million. Average savings for a family is about 20 percent.

“We hear from our customers time and again about the importance of keeping costs in check to maintain low and stable rates, just as we have for the past 50 years,” Rendall continued. “Since 2012, our customers have seen their rates decrease by about 15%. Our continued commitment to affordable and reliable energy is something we take very seriously. We look forward to delivering on that promise for all customers, as we move into new communities.”
