Vermont open houses for National Manufacturing Day, October 2

Vermont Business Magazine In conjunction with National Manufacturing Day/Month, several Vermont firms will have open houses:October 2,2015, Maple Landmark Woodcraft will be hosting students, lawmaker(s), andcommunity members for factory tours. This event is part of a nationwideeffort to draw greater attention to the outstanding opportunities a career inmanufacturing can provide as well as promote the pursuit of skills which leadto a long-term career that offers security and growth.

Shop visitors will have an up-close opportunity to observe the facility infull production, from in- coming raw lumber to finished product, and get asneak peek at the 11,000 square foot addition that is currently beingconstructed. Maple Landmark Woodcraft has always prided itself on the use oftechnology – CNC routers, lasers, printers, and custom built machinery –to keep competitive with foreign imports. A visit will show how MapleLandmark’s manufacturing isn’t just about an assembly line.

October 2rdtours will be hourly between9 am – 2 pm. Visitors will have aguided 45 minute full shop tour free of charge. Can’t make it for NationalManufacturing Day? Maple Landmark Woodcraft gives regular tours at 10 am and1 pm. $2 per person, children under 5 are free.

Andrew Pearce Bowls will beparticipating. We are having an Open House onOct 3, 2015from 10a-4pwelcoming the public to come take a facility tour, watch live bowl turnerdemonstrations and see our new factory retail store. Andrew Pearce isexpanding and has recently moved to a larger facility in Hartland, VT fromBethel,VT.

TheAmerican Precision Museum, in partnership with theHartford Area Career & Technology Center, theSpringfield Regional Development Corporation, theRiver Valley Workforce Investment Board, and theRiver Valley Technical Centeris connecting schools to manufacturing companies as part ofNational Manufacturing Day.

Upper Valley manufacturers face great challenges finding enough employees tofill their approximately 7,000 jobs. A recent report from the Green MountainEconomic Development Corporation details the critical demand for employeesand the need to connect classroom learning with future careers. Most highschool and middle school students don’t realize that manufacturing offers awide variety of career opportunities, many of them on the leading edge of newtechnologies.

To help address these needs and knowledge gaps, American Precision Museum iscoordinating a week (October 5 – October 9) of manufacturing tours andinformation sessions as part of National Manufacturing Day activities.Programs will showcase manufacturingcareers and modern technology:

• Guided manufacturing tours for middle and high school students

• Presentations at area schools

• Teacher workshops

• Tours of Upper Valley regional technical centers

American Precision Museum is connecting this region’s deeply-rooted

manufacturing history and tradition with the future of manufacturing. Many

public organizations and private businesses are collaborating with APM on

Upper Valley Manufacturing Week.
