Amtrak restores partial Amtrak service Thursday

Vermont Business Magazine GovernorPeter Shumlin issued the following statement Wednesday after Amtrak announced that partial service will be restored on the Vermonter line thursday following Monday’s derailment in Northfield. The Vermonter northbound train will operate from Washington to Saint Albans as normal. Passengers traveling southbound will continue to be transported by bus to Springfield, MA,. or New Haven, CT, where they will board other Amtrak trains. The Vermonter is scheduled to arrive in St Albans at 8:57 pm.

“I want to thank everyone who worked so hard over the past two days to ensure Monday’s derailment caused as little disruption as possible. From the first responders who rushed to the scene to the Norwich University personnel who took in and fed stranded passengers to all those who helped clear the derailed cars and repair the tracks, I want to extend my sincere gratitude. Vermonters reacted to this situation with characteristic community spirit and hospitality, and I am pleased service is being restored in advance of what should a great weekend to see Vermont’s world famous foliage.”
