Vermont Business Magazine The City of Winooski today announced that it will add free, 15 minute spots to its downtown parking corridor. The move is intended to make it easier for visitors to downtown to complete a quick errand without having to pay for a full hour of parking. These new spots complete an overall parking plan for the City that includes paid parking in the city garage and on-street in the downtown area. The plan is designed to keep people from holding parking spots for long periods, deterring others from coming downtown to shop, dine, and do errands.Parking is just one component of Winooski’s modern, multi-modal transportation plan.
In addition to changes to parking that enable motorists to find a space more easily, Winooski has made several moves to support other modes of transportation. The City has created a multi-modal transportation hub that provides covered bike lockers, bus shelters, and a Carshare Vermont vehicle for people who don’t own a car or choose not to drive downtown.Other amenities in the city include a DC fast charging station for electric vehicles in the garage and free bike tire pumping stations downtown.
“Winooski has developed transportation infrastructure designed to make it easy to live, work, shop and dine in Winooski,” said Katherine ‘Deac’ Decarreau, Winooski City Manager.“Fifteen minute spots are just another way to encourage people to come downtown to do an errand or get a coffee without having to pay to park.”
