VLCT appoints Maura Carroll new executive director

The Vermont League of Cities and Towns’ Board of Directors today appointed Maura Carroll of Concord, NH, the organization’s new executive director. Carroll most recently served as the executive director of the New Hampshire Local Government Center, a sister organization to VLCT.

Jared Cadwell, VLCT President and selectboard member from Fayston, said that the board vote to hire Carroll was unanimous by its 12 members.

“VLCT is so fortunate to have a candidate like Maura who can step right in without VLCT missing a beat and continue to expand and improve its services to Vermont local government.” According to Cadwell, Carroll served for 25 years with the New Hampshire municipal association, beginning as a staff attorney and progressing through the positions of government affairs director and general counsel before being appointed as that organization’s executive director. She is an attorney and served in the New Hampshire state legislature. She has served on the Concord, New Hampshire city council and was its mayor pro tempore. “Maura brings a wealth of experience and talents that cover the gamut of needs of VLCT and its member municipalities,” said Cadwell.

After her appointment, Carroll expressed her enthusiasm. “My passion is working with local governments, especially here in New England. I am so pleased to be joining VLCT and look forward to working with our members, staff, and Board, continuing the important work that Steve Jeffrey has done so well. This is a great organization, providing excellent service to the cities and towns in Vermont, and I am excited to be a part of continuing its mission.”

Carroll will be replacing Steve Jeffrey, who will be retiring in July. Jeffrey has been with VLCT for 37 years and its executive director for almost 33 years.
