March 30, 2015 marked the annual observance of National Doctors’ Day, a day to recognize the contributions, dedication, and care of physicians around the country. This year, MtAscutney Hospital and Health Center (MAHHC) celebrated Doctors’ Day in their own way — by making a donation to the Windsor food shelf in honor of their physicians.
Each year, MtAscutney Hospital and Health Center (MAHHC) takes advantage of Doctors’ Day to extend its heartfelt thanks to the many primary and specialty care providers who make up the Hospital’s top-notch medical staff. “Doctors’ Day does provide an opportunity for us to say “Thanks,” said Hospital CEO Kevin W. Donovan, “But the physicians here at MAHHC deserve a level of gratitude that goes beyond what we can express in words. Because we’re a small community hospital where a personal touch matters, they go above and beyond every day. They take the time to listen, understand, and truly get to know our patients, so they can fully attend to each individual’s personal needs.”

Donovan added that the donation to the Windsor Food Shelf in honor of Doctors’ Day exemplifies the physicians’ dedication and commitment to serving the health and well-being of the whole Windsor community.
Pam Smith, is the Food Shelf Coordinator at Windsor’s Trinity Evangelical Free Church. “We are incredibly grateful for the doctors’ generosity,” said Smith, “It’s been an unusually tough winter for many in our community, and our supplies definitely need replenishing. This donation comes at a perfect time.”
The origins of Doctors’ Day date back to March 30, 1933, when Eudora Almond, the wife of Atlanta physician Dr. Charles Almond, wanted to set aside a day to honor physicians for their service. In 1990, legislation was finally introduced in the House and Senate to establish a national day to recognize doctors’ work and service. Following overwhelming approval, President George H.W. Bush signed the official resolution on October 30, 1990, designating March 30 as National Doctors’ Day.
