Weekly unemployment claims slide again

Vermont Business MagazineWeekly unemployment claims fell for the third week, which continues a steady decline over the last month. Forthe week of March 21, 2015, there were 557 new, regular benefit claims for Unemployment Insurance in Vermont. This is a decrease of 125 from the previous week's total, and 61 fewer than they were a year ago.

Altogether 7,453 new and continuing claims were filed, a decrease of 375 from a week ago and 768 fewer than a year ago. The Department processed 0 First Tier claims for benefits under Emergency Unemployment Compensation, 2008 (EUC08), the same asthe previous week.

There were no Second Tier claims for benefits processed under the EUC08 program. There were zero Tier III claims. The Tier I, II and III programs expired on December 28, 2013. Congress would need to act to renew these extended benefit programs.SEESTORY

The total for all programs was 7,453 claims, 375 fewer than last week, and 834 fewer than the same time last year. For the week by industry, Construction were up while Manufacturing sector claims were down.
