Vermont Gas Systems expands efficiency services to Addison County

Vermont Gas Systems, Inc. will now offer its energy efficiency services to even more Vermonters, including some in potential new service areas – whether or not they choose to sign up for natural gas service. Qualified homes in Addison County will be eligible for a free energy audit, detailing recommended energy efficiency measures. The audit report will detail the estimated cost of each recommended energy efficiency measure and how much money residents are expected to save. Vermont Gas’ energy efficiency programs save current customers $13 million each year. Programs are also available for commercial customers.

“Folks who make the switch to natural gas can expect to cut their home heating bills significantly, but the company feels so strongly about the importance of energy efficiency, and the benefits of natural gas, that it is making the programs available to qualified residents in Addison County regardless of whether potential customers convert to natural gas,” said Scott Harrington, Manager of Vermont Gas’ Energy Services Department.

For many efficiency measures, Vermont Gas offers rebates of up to one-third of the cost and can easily arrange 0% interest loans for the balance of the work. If a heating system needs to be replaced, the company offers a cash rebate up to $600 or a 0% interest loan to help with the cost of upgrading to a new, energy-efficient model.

Vermont Gas’ efficiency programs have won national recognition, including honors from The American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy (ACEEE) for the company’s commercial retrofit services, residential equipment replacement services, and residential new construction services.

The company has recently hired a new Residential Energy Auditor, adding an additional position to its current efficiency staff. Wayne Thompson comes to Vermont Gas after serving as a Service and Energy Efficiency Manager for the Energy Coop of Vermont. He has also worked at the Champlain Valley Weatherization Service as both a Technical Coordinator and a Home Energy Auditor.
