Vermont Business Magazine Vermont Humanities Council has awarded a $1,000 grant to the Vermont College of Fine Arts (VCFA) to support its Presidential Writers Conversation Series. The series is one of nine projects that received awards during VHC’s Spring 2015 grant cycle. The Presidential Writers Conversation Series, taking place in August, brings major national literary figures to Vermont to promote the importance of literature and writing, inviting the Vermont community to take part in a big-picture discussion about literature.
VHC’s Grants program supports nonprofit organizations that conduct humanities-related projects; this spring VHC awarded a total of $16,300 to these organizations.
In addition to VCFA’s writers series, new VHC-funded grant projects include the Hoag Farm Welcome Kiosk (Willowell Foundation, $2,000) to support a welcome kiosk at Willowell Educational Center, the former location of historic Hoag Farm; PlayTalk: Intimate Apparel (Dorset Theatre Festival, $1,000) to support humanities-based talks offered in conjunction with a production of the celebrated play Intimate Apparel; Triptych Journey’s Precious Guru Exhibition (Fractured Atlas, Burlington $750) to support an exhibition and events exploring the story of Himalayan Buddhist Guru Rinpoche; and the Vision and Voice Traveling Exhibit Program (Vermont Folklife Center, $1,250) to support the Vermont Folklife Center’s traveling exhibitions and programming around the state.
Other grant awards include the Brattleboro Literary Festival (Building a Better Brattleboro, $3,000); the Burlington Book Festival (Vermont Performing Arts League, $3,000); the Lifelong Learning Music Series (South Burlington Community Library, $800); and the week-long educational Time Travelers Camp in Brownington (Orleans County Historical Society, $3,500).
Twice a year, through a competitive grant process, VHC makes awards to museums and libraries, film, music and literary festivals, local historical societies, and other nonprofit organizations to support public humanities programs that contribute to the achievement of its mission. VHC makes awards of up to $5,000.
In 2014, VHC granted a total of $36,000 to nineteen organizations.
