Vermont Business Magazine The Department of Public Service announced Friday that the Public Service Board has approved the Memorandum of Understanding entered into between FairPoint and the Department that will benefit customers who suffered service outages during 2014. Under the terms of the MOU, approximately 22,000 FairPoint customers will receive credits on their telephone bills for disrupted service. In addition to the bill credits, FairPoint commits to accept over $52 million in federal Connect America Two (CAFII) funding to extend high speed broadband access to 28,400 Vermont addresses. Terms of the MOU also bring enhanced security to the state’s E911 system infrastructure.
Public Service Commissioner Christopher Recchia said, “The decision by the Board to accept the MOU between FairPoint and the Department brings many benefits to Vermonters, including much needed capital to increase broadband speed access to those addresses that are hardest to reach, as well as technological improvements that will enhance the security and reliability of the state’s critical E911 system.”
Recchia added, “The Board decision demonstrates that we expect nothing short of top-notch service quality from FairPoint.”
The Department entered into the MOU with FairPoint in August 2015 in response to a wide range of service quality complaints against the company that were under investigation by the Public Service Board.
