Stratton Mountain closes season with skimmy skiing

Another amazing season at Stratton Mountain has come to a close, and Saturday's Pond Skim participants certainly did not disappoint with their elaborate costumes and skimming skills. Temperatures were unseasonably chilly for the event, with a low of 30 degrees, but that didn't stop125 participants fromdaringly skimmingtheir way across the 20” by 90’ man-made pond.

The first place costume was worn by Jack Simon, who sported a fashionable Speedo bathing suit with suspenders. Simon was awarded two tickets to see the Boston Red Sox take the New York Yankees at Fenway Park. Lauren Gibbons was the runner-up and won a pair of skis for her beautifully beaded white wedding dress and red rose bouquet. Britt Wohler was awarded brand new ski goggles for a Winnie the Pooh inspired Tigger costume.

Temperatures warmed up on the last day of the ski season, April 12. Skiers and Riders hunted for a Golden Watermelon on the hill to win a 2015/16 Spirit Season Pass. Jason Davis was the lucky hunter, finding the Watermelon on Lower Tamarack.

The 2014/15 season was certainly one for the books. With 13” of fresh snow on opening day in November, over 70” of fresh snow in February alone, and a season total of 156”, it was a great season to be a part of the Stratton family.

Although our legs may need a break after all those powder days, it won’t be long until the fun ramps up again around the Village. For more information on what’s next at Stratton, visit stratton.com.
