Weekly unemployment claims slightly up

Vermont Business Magazine Weekly unemployment claims edged up again forthe week of April 4, 2015. There were 601 new, regular benefit claims for Unemployment Insurance in Vermont, an increase of 33 from the previous week's total, but 230 fewer than they were a year ago.

Altogether 6,978 new and continuing claims were filed, a decrease of 215 from a week ago and 1,081 fewer than a year ago. The Department processed 0 First Tier claims for benefits under Emergency Unemployment Compensation, 2008 (EUC08), the same asthe previous week.

There were no Second Tier claims for benefits processed under the EUC08 program. There were zero Tier III claims. The Tier I, II and III programs expired on December 28, 2013. Congress would need to act to renew these extended benefit programs.SEESTORY

The total for all programs was 6,978 claims, 215 fewer than last week, and 1,133 fewer than the same time last year. For the week by industry, Construction claims were sharply down, Manufacturing was also down and Service sector claims were sharply up compared to the previous week but similar to a year ago.
