Burlington homeless shelter takes ANEW name

ANEW Place, formerly the Burlington Emergency Shelter, has announced its new name. In 2014, the shelter embarked upon a full rebranding process with field experts Mark and Lisa Sylvester of Interrobang Design Collaborative, Inc in Richmond, Vermont.Over the last several years, the organization has undergone several exciting, new changes while continuing to offer innovative solutions that address the needs of the whole person. The new name, logo, and language was released at their 11thAnnual Fundraising Gala on May 9th, 2014. This event took place at the Hilton Hotel in Burlington, Vermont, and included a silent auction, speeches by staff members, Vermont Symphony Orchestra musicians, a new promotional video, and the rebrand unveiling. This year’s fundraising gala raised over $68,000dollars in donations for shelter, making it a huge success for this small organization that receives no state or federal funding.

Inline image 1To begin the rebanding process, the shelter launched a marketing survey in early March that was sent to donors and supporters asking for feedback on how the shelter was viewed in the community. The outpouring of responses received in such a short period of time was incredible- well over 300 in less than one week! From there, Interrobang Design Collaborative, Inc. worked closely with shelter team members to create new language and imagery that truly captures the new direction of the organization.

Since 1982, ANEW Place has offered rehabilitation and tools for positive, permanent life change to men and women in need, helping them to successfully leave homelessness behind.Founded as a Christian organization, ANEW Place is still guided by the values of caring for the whole person and showing love and dignity to all, but they are looking forward to embarking upon a new, more innovative chapter in order to better meet the needs of all they serve. In recent years, ANEW Place has expanded their programs beyond temporary relief to foster holistic growth, and provide tools so that each homeless individual can make steps towards lifelong change, leaving homelessness behind. They meet each person where they are, no matter their history, and target the root causes of homelessness, so they can start anew. ANEW Place continues to provide shelter for those who are homeless, offering asafe haven with all basic needs met – a bed, a meal, a shower, a clean environment, and a family of support. Then, in a partnership between client and case manager, create a transition plan that addresses whole person needs for lifelong change. Guests are equipped with new tools for life and career development, and provided accountability and encouragement for the road ahead.

The mission of ANEW Place is to provide a holistic continuum for the homeless, centered in love and dignity, that foster growth, cultivate community engagement, and provide tools for lifelong change so that each person may start anew.

At ANEW Place, there are several ways to help and partner with this grassroots organization – as a one-time meal provider, ongoing volunteer, or through a gift to support programs that are bringing real change to the homeless community.
