Vermont Business Magazine New unemployment claims in Vermont fell considerably last week to their lowest levels since March. Forthe week of May 3, 2014, there were 568 new, regular benefit claims for Unemployment Insurance in Vermont. This is a decrease of 418 from the previous week's total, and 354 fewer than they were a year ago.
Altogether 7,225 new and continuing claims were filed, a decrease of 795 from a week ago and 883 fewer than a year ago. The Department also processed 35 First Tier claims for benefits under Emergency Unemployment Compensation, 2008 (EUC08), 11 fewer than the previous week.
There were no Second Tier claims for benefits processed under the EUC08 program, one fewer than the previous week. There were zero Tier III claims. The Tier I, II and III programs expired on December 28, 2013. The US Senate overwhelmingly passed such legislation April 7, but it faces an uncertain future in the House. Congress would need to act to renew these extended benefit programs.SEESTORY
The total for all programs was 7,260 claims, 807 fewer than last week, and 1,773 fewer than the same time last year.
