2014 Do Good Fest raises nearly $11,000 for Cancer Patient Fund

The inauguralDo Good Festhosted by National Life Group over the weekend raised nearly $11,000 forBranches of Hope, the Cancer Patient Fund at Central Vermont Medical Center’s National Life Cancer Treatment Center.Roughly 1,500 people attended the daylong music festival on the grounds ofNational Life Group, which was co-sponsored byThe Point FM.

Mehran Assadi, president and CEO of National Life Group, said he was thrilled that the company was able to raise money for an important cause in the community.

“Our company values are doing good, being good and making good,” Assadi said. “Being good is part of the fabric of the company. It’s part of our DNA, and part of doing good is being a good citizen in the community.”

Theresa Lever, patient navigator at the Cancer Treatment Center, said the money raised at the festival will benefit many central Vermonters.

“We were pleased to participate in such a fantastic event and we’re delighted at the fundraising success,” Lever said. “This boost to the fund translates into peace of mind for the individuals and families who struggle to make ends meet while dealing with cancer.”

Branches of Hope helps with the basic living expenses and emergency and special needs of those receiving cancer care.

Eric Hutchinsonheadlined the Do Good Fest, which also featured four other bands:

theGordon Stone Band, thePatrick Fitzsimmons Trio,Pale CowboyandPaDulabaum. The festival was also co-sponsored bySeven Days.
