Blake Hill Preserves, producers of all-natural, artisanal chutneys, jams and marmalades, is excited to announce that its rich Plum & Fennel Chutney has won this year’s Good Food Awards ‘ the first ever chutney to win in the four-year history of the Awards. Not only is this honor a record breaker for the Good Food Awards, but the organization has also bestowed accolades on two additional Blake Hill Preserves entries. Nominated as Finalists are the Grapefruit, Lemon & Thyme Marmalade, and Raspberry & Hibiscus Jam. Blake Hill is the first preserves maker ever to receive three Good Food Awards in one year.’
Vicky Allard, Blake Hill Preserves’ co-founder and executive chef, who gave a speech on behalf of the winners at the awards ceremony at San Francisco’s Palace of Fine Arts, says: ‘We feel truly honored to have one of each of our products recognized as Winners and Finalists by the Good Food Awards organization.’ Vicky’s speech was made to a packed audience of food luminaries including Alice Waters, Nell Newman, owner of Newman’s Own Organics, and Good Food Awards founder Sarah Weiner. ‘
It is fitting that Blake Hill’s Plum & Fennel Chutney was chosen as the overall winner from among the finalists. Joe Hanglin, co-owner and head of finance and operations, says:’ ‘Vermont is home to so many exceptional cheeses including in our own village, the wonderful Grafton Village Cheese (and fellow award nominee cheesemakers Farms for City Kids Foundation and von Trapp Farmstead), that are the perfect pairing with our fruity, rich and complexly-spiced chutneys. It is gratifying that our chutney received the special recognition.’’
The Plum & Fennel Chutney is a favorite of husband and wife team Vicky and Joe. It was inspired by the pair’s love of Moroccan cooking. A tagine-in-a-jar, it is packed with plums, prunes, heirloom apples, red peppers, and Vicky’s unique Ras El Hanout spice blend. Blake Hill’s chutneys are perfect examples of the creativity and quality of the company’s entire range. All of the preserves are packed with fruit; they never contain any artificial preservatives, fillers or thickeners and are low in sodium as well as gluten-free.’
The work never stops for Vicky and Joe and their team of preserve makers.’ Vicky says:’ ‘Our passion is to create our own little piece of art in the humble world of preserve making. We want to create something that is delicious, authentic and unique’something that represents what we love to eat.’ We have not had a chance to catch our breath since leaving our corporate jobs in New York City 18 months ago. That said, we could not be happier!’’
