HowardCenter was recently awarded a three-year accreditation—the highest level of accreditation—from CARF International (formerly known as the Commission of Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) for its San Remo Drive clinic, which provides medication assisted treatment for individuals with opioid dependence. The award commends the HowardCenter and notes that, “This achievement is an indication of the organization’s dedication and commitment to improving the quality of the lives of the people served.”
The CARF Accreditation report highlights program strengths, including HowardCenter’s long, rich history of providing high-quality, compassionate human services in Vermont and a high level of patient satisfaction.
Bob Bick, Director of HowardCenter Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, said, “We are extremely pleased to receive a three-year accreditation for our San Remo Drive clinic as it validates the importance and quality of the work we do in contributing to the betterment of individuals’ lives and the community.” Over 650 patients have received services since the Clinic opened in the fall of 2013.
CARF is an independent, not-for-profit accrediting body, which establishes consumer-focused standards to help organizations measure and improve the quality of their programs and services. CARF’s informational material explains that its “standards are rigorous, so those services that meet them are among the best available.”
HowardCenter offers life-saving professional crisis and counseling services to children and adults; supportive services to individuals with autism and developmental disabilities who need help with education, employment, and life maintenance skills; counseling and medical services for those struggling with substance abuse, and intensive interventions for adults with serious and persistent mental health challenges. The agency serves 15,000 clients and other community members each year. HowardCenter is a funded agency of United Way of Chittenden County.
