Report on wood pellets supports building new mill

A new Vermont report on wood pellets released Wednesday articulates the hopes and challenges for the increased use of wood pellets in Vermont, including the opening of a new wood pellet mill in the state.
‘Despite enjoying enormous market growth, wood pellets still remain a largely overlooked heating energy source,’ said Jason Lorber, Aplomb Consulting, who authored the study. ‘Nevertheless, consumers and leaders from industry, environmental, and government sectors report that Vermont should and is likely to see more usage of wood pellets.’
The 44-page report, ‘Wood Pellets for Vermont’ was commissioned by the Vermont Sustainable Heating Initiative, a Vermont non-profit dedicated to affordable and sustainable heat energy that is socially, environmentally, and economically responsible.
The report is based on interviews with more than twenty consumers, industry leaders, environmentalists and government officials, and is filled with recommendations and insights on the benefits and obstacles of wood pellets.
The report’s author received praise from the sponsoring organization’s executive director Tom Tailer who said, ‘Jason Lorber has a deep understanding of renewable energy, in a way that resonates with consumers, investors, and lawmakers. Jason's ability to translate complex issues into clear and compelling messages has been crucial in helping us convey to outside stakeholders the importance of our mission.’
