Waitsfield voted one of Outside Magazine’s 2013 Best Towns

Waitsfield, Vermont, has been voted by Outside Magazine as one of the ‘Best Towns of 2013.’ Waitsfield is one of four towns making up central Vermont’s Mad River Valley, home to both Sugarbush and Mad River Glen ski areas.
Voting took place through Facebook over the course of three weeks. Towns eligible to receive votes were pulled from the American College of Sports Medicine’s annual list of the country’s fifty healthiest cities. That list was combined with numerous small and midsize active towns as chosen by local athletes. Over 21,000 votes were cast and eighteen towns were chosen.
Waitsfield’s ranking highlighted the town’s lack of traffic, noise, and lack of pretension as reasons for winning. It also highlighted the nearby outdoor offerings, including the Green Mountains, the Class II-III Mad River, numerous bike trails, and both Sugarbush and Mad River Glen.
‘The Mad River Valley is truly authentic--that’s what really differentiates us,’ notes Mad River Glen Marketing Director Eric Friedman.
This is the second time Waitsfield has been included in Outside Magazine’s rankings. In 2010, Waitsfield was chosen as ‘Best Ski Town in the East.’
‘This was a pleasant affirmation of what residents and fans of the Mad River Valley already know,’ said Mad River Valley Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Susan Klein. ‘This is a sophisticated, active and savvy community, cloaked in a bucolic Vermont landscape’.
