NG Advantage LLC and the Rutland Regional Medical Center (RRMC) of Rutland, VT have contracted to convert the hospital to compressed natural gas (CNG) providing facility heat and hot water for the hospital’s staff and patients. NG Advantage, using its ‘virtual pipeline’ of high-tech carbon fiber composite tractor-trailers, will deliver CNG to RRMC because the hospital does not currently have access to a natural gas pipeline.
The CNG will replace fuel oil at the hospital saving approximately 30% off of the hospital’s fuel costs and eliminating 26% of the CO2 emissions as well as almost all particulates.
Rutland Regional Medical Center, an affiliate of Rutland Regional Health Services, was established in 1896 to provide high quality health care to the greater Rutland area. Today the hospital is the second largest in Vermont and serves Rutland County, portions of southern and central Vermont, and communities in eastern New York State.
‘One of our six goals for the year is Financial Strength. We will achieve financial strength and stability partially by maintaining the health of our community and by improving our cost structure to produce sufficient margins,’ Rutland Regional Hospital President Thomas Huebner said. ‘Converting to CNG gives us a head start on achieving this goal. The cost savings and reduction in pollution are very important to the health of our community and to having the financial ability to continue providing excellent care.’
NG Advantage’s CEO Neale Lunderville said, ‘NG Advantage will begin providing Rutland Regional Medical Center with compressed natural gas in Q1 of 2014. The hospital will immediately experience the savings afforded by clean, safe, North American natural gas.’ Lunderville added, ‘RRMC will join the other regional companies and institutions served by NG Advantage in their commitment to improving the environment of New England.’
