New unemployment claims fell for the first time in five weeks, to back under 800 claims. For’ the week of November 11, 2013, there were 789 new, regular benefit claims for Unemployment Insurance in Vermont. This is a decrease of 75 from the previous week's total, and 28 more than they were a year ago.
Altogether 5,484’ new and continuing claims were filed, an increase of 232 from a week ago and 710 fewer than a year ago. The Department also processed 696 First Tier claims for benefits under Emergency Unemployment Compensation, 2008 (EUC08), 3 fewer than the same number as a week ago.
In addition, there were 12 Second Tier claims for benefits processed under the EUC08 program, which is 1 fewer than the week before. The Tier III program of extended benefits is being discontinued in Vermont as the state's’ unemployment rate has been under the federal threshold for more than three months. ‘
The total for all programs was 6,201 claims, 229 more than last week but 1,388 fewer than the same time last year.
