New unemployment claims increased for the third consecutive week to over 800. For’ the week of November 9, 2013, there were 864 new, regular benefit claims for Unemployment Insurance in Vermont. This is an increase of 81 from the previous week's total, and 84 fewer than they were a year ago.
Altogether 5,252’ new and continuing claims were filed, an increase of 432 from a week ago and 872 fewer than a year ago. The Department also processed 699 First Tier claims for benefits under Emergency Unemployment Compensation, 2008 (EUC08), an increase of 8 from the previous week.
In addition, there were 13 Second Tier claims for benefits processed under the EUC08 program, which is 1 more than the week before. The Tier III program of extended benefits is being discontinued in Vermont as the state's’ unemployment rate has been under the federal threshold for more than three months. ‘
The total for all programs was 5,972 claims, 438 more than last week but 1,5434 fewer than the same time last year.
