UVM enters into new contract with police union

The University of Vermont’s Board of Trustees Executive Committee today authorized the administration to enter into a new collective bargaining agreement with the union representing employees in its Police Services Department.’
The new contract with Local 597 of the Chauffeurs, Teamster, Warehousemen and Helpers Union, which is in effect from July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2014, includes: A 2.9 percent pay increase on base hourly rates; shift increases to $1.42 per hour; an increase in the minimum starting rate for new hires; and a small increase in the hourly premium rate paid to employees responsible for field officer training.’
The previous contract expired on’ June 30. Agreement on the new contract was reached on Oct. 21 following one mediation session. The agreement was ratified by the bargaining unit membership in early November.’
There are currently 15 police officers, five service officers, five dispatchers and one vacant police officer position in the bargaining unit.
