Statement on CMS completion of Brattleboro Retreat re-survey

Surveyors from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) completed a three-day re-survey of the Brattleboro Retreat on Wednesday, November 6, as a follow-up to the Plan of Correction that was previously submitted by the Retreat and accepted by CMS.’ In a statement, the Retreat said that "the CMS Surveyors indicated in their exit conference that they had no findings and that the Retreat is in compliance with CMS Conditions of Participation.

"The surveyors acknowledged the hard work and commitment to patients and to performance improvement by the employees at the Retreat. The surveyors indicated that they will forward their recommendation to the regional CMS office, and we await the final CMS determination letter. ‘
"We wish to acknowledge the extraordinary work of our employees as they continue to be dedicated to improving the lives of the individuals who come to the Retreat for care. Together we have worked with focus and determination to ensure that all patients receive the highest quality care possible. We have engaged in a process of continuous learning and problem solving while simultaneously adjusting our processes and protocols to meet the increasingly complex needs of some of our state’s most acutely ill patients."
NOTE: The Brattleboro Retreat stated it will not make any further statements to the press on this matter until after the hospital receives an official written copy of the final determination from CMS.’
